Ahwahnee and Wawona Hotels
There were a few more compulsory spots to visit before leaving the Valley.
The first was the Ahwahnee Hotel. This old rough-hewn granite lodge
has been in the Valley for a long time. The rates were not absurd ($160
or so for a room).
I debated stopping for a drink. There was a nice patio/bar, but the
day was already drawing on, so I decided to take some pictures
inside and out, then make my way out of the valley back to the
Summerdale campground via the Wawona
hotel.
When I got to the Wawona Hotel (around 4:30), I found out that their bar
did not open till 5:00. No problem! I made a quick trip back
to the Van and grabbed a couple of beers, and sat and enjoyed the
afternoon on the hotel veranda. I also took a stroll down to the
Pro Shop to get a score card for the Golf Course.
After that I made my way back to the Camp for the second night (the one that
rained). After that second night, I then drove back into Wawona, for a free dump of the
holding tanks and to take on more fresh water and gasoline (and to buy some Marshmallows!).
Then I drove into the Valley again and out thru the North Side of the
National Park to the Stanislaus National Forest.
