Hand Carved Love Spoons

from a single piece of Mahogany

I carved these spoons for my sister. I wanted to do something "whimsical" for her, and a real moving chain seemed like an appropriate challenge. The spoons and chain are carved from a single piece of wood.

It takes quite a while to work each link in the chain free, but it is well worth the effort when you are rewarded with moving parts!

Someday I would like to revisit the notion of "whimseys" (doo-dads with "moving parts"), combining it with the functional aspects of Boxes to create something with chains that is also useful and nice to look at. We'll see !!
