Alaska Part 2 - Exploring Alaska

After I had found the Butte, I had nothing left but free time to explore Alaska. Apart from the general goal of taking the ferry thru the inside passage, I had no other specific plans. So I just made it up as I went along. As a result, the the next week of the trip was spent exploring Central Alaska.

I saw some great sights on this part of the trip. On the Kenai Peninsula I drove thru the longest tunnel in North America, stopped in the towns of Whittier and Seward, camped by Kenai Lake, took a hike up to Exit Glacier and a nice bicycle ride around the Portage Glacier area.

Then I headed north to Denali National Park, where I was a little disappointed by the crowds, but was more than satisfied when I got to drive the 135 miles of relatively undeveloped dirt road they call the Denali Highway.   It was really cool.  On the Denali Highway, I stopped at this place called the Gratius House where I took a flightseeing trip over the Susitina, Black Rapids, and McClaren Glaciers in Alaska Mountain Range and saw some sights that I'll never forget.
