Southern Sequoia Camp1 Troy Meadows CG

The first place I stopped was at the Troy Meadows Campground. This CG is in a state OHV Area, but the trails were all closed due to the heavy snows in the season. They don't want people cutting ruts by riding on the trails when they're muddy. So instead, I went for a nice little ride on the quiet paved roads around the campground (the bikes are street legal, remember? :-)

I did manage to find one dirt forest service road that was open for about a mile, and rode out and back on that once just for fun, but after about 10 miles of mostly paved roads, I decided to pack it in and head for another camping spot.

However, in spite of not having many riding opportunities around Troy Meadow at that time, I noted the spot with great interest. This would probably be a really nice place to come during the summer, when the lowlands are just too hot for riding.

On one of the rides I ran into a Forest Ranger, and when asked about good riding possibilites, he suggested I try this place called Horse Meadow, about 20 miles away. Unfortunately, the pass thru the mountains leading there was closed due to snow, so I had to take the long way round ....
