Studio - Summary

If you walked into the studio right now you would not be aware of all of the work that went into it. All told, the following materials, weighing well over 4000 lbs, were added to the room and attic:

  • 16 sheets of 1/2" brownsoundboard
  • 16 sheets of 1/2" grey soundboard
  • 16 sheets of 1/2" drywall
  • 12 sheets of 3/8" drywall
  • 12 sheets of 3/8" plywood
  • 12 sheets of 3/4" plywood
  • 32 8’ 2x4s
  • 2 10’ 4x4s
  • 2 pallets of insulation
  • 8 cases (72 tubes) of caulk
  • 300 sq ft 1/2" rubber matting
  • 300 sq ft 1/2"carpet padding
  • 2 solid core doors

Here’s a picture of the room as it stands today:

Pat Kingsland helped for 1 day, Don Musial (another buddy) helped for about 2 and 1/2 days, and I hired some mexican laborers to help for about a week, but I myself did the bulk of the work over a six week period starting sometime in May of 2002 and ending sometime in early July.

I must say that the payoff came when we setup the band, including a live drumset.  With them going full blast, I mean real loud, I snuck out of the room and went outside, and you could barely hear it.  No louder than a small transistor radio. Now we can jam full-tilt boogie until midnight, and with just a little restraint could play all night long. Also very important is that, when I am recording, no untoward sounds (jets, lawnmowers, little kids playing in the street) find their way inside and onto my recordings. A lot of work, but overall I am very pleased.
