Grant Grove, Tunnel Tree, and ... home

After a hike around the Chicago Stump and meadow, I decided it was time to see Grant Grove and the famous General Grant Sequoia Tree. So I drove the few miles to the town and the grove and did the usual tourist thing.

Note that you can click on any photograph to see it bigger. Seriously, note how big the Tree is in the above photo! One of the trees had fallen and was hollowed out by fire and had been used as a domicile and stable before I walked thru it below.

After I looked at Grants Grove, I thought I would head out of the N.P. to the west and camp someplace else. So I drove out of the park, and then turned south towards Pinehurst (ostensibly on Forest Service land). However, the further I drove the more houses I came across, till finally, after I had driven about 20 miles down the hill from Grants Grove, I decided, once again, to turn around and head back to my old spot at Camp2.

I stayed that night again on the Hoist Ridge, had a nice fire again, with a good meal, and a good nights sleep. I got up the next morning (monday) at 8:00 a.m. or so, drove back to San Diego, arriving at about 4:00 p.m.

I had a great trip!
