Alaska Part 5 - Western Canada

I wsa looking forward to returning to British Columbia, which I had enjoyed so much on the way up to Alaska. I disembarked the ferry in Prince Rupert, Canada, and spent the next 6 days exploring my way thru Western Canada.

The views along the Yellowhead Highway were spectactular as I snaked my way thru the the Skeena River canyon. I boondocked for a night at the Shames River Ski Resort. I stopped at Twin Falls, near Smithers, then went off road for 50 or so miles to boondock at an isolated place called Hagerty Lake. It was really nice.

Since I had not spent as much time on Kenai and in Denali as I had thought I might, I ended up with some extra days to explore on this part of the trip. So, instead of heading straight back down to the U.S. as I had tentatively planned, when I got to Prince George, I kept heading east into Alberta Canada, so that I could visit the famous National Parks there.

I spent the few extra days blazing thru Canada's Jasper, Banff, Yoho, Glacier, and Revelstoke National Parks. Boy, talk about a lot to see. I definitely have to go back to these parks allowing even more time, perhaps on a trip all their own. I saw incredible mountains and glaciers along the Icefield Highway, stopped at the Natural Bridge on the Kicking River, and went up to the summit of Mount Revelstoke, where the views just go on forever.

In keeping with the adventure, I took a couple more ferry rides onto ever more out-of-the-way places and found some wonderful isolated places to camp for the last two nights in Canada. I especially enjoyed the part of the journey that took me along Highway 31 to Trout and Duncan Lakes.

Then it was time to leave Canada and re-enter the mainland U.S. again. Sigh.
