... very pretty -- not sure where it is, though
... What are your plans for the property? House?
... Congrats!
... And I was just wondering what you've been up to...
Liz, it's kind of complicated lol, but starts with a good dock for Rhapsody and decks near the shore with some storage buildings Then a generator room cut into the hillside, then a house for the workers. There is/was evidence of recent logging on the property (the trees and the wood are a big part of it) so the seller agreed to let me put a "watchee-man" on the property during the "escrow" process (until I pay him in full). Today that worker, Isreal, and a partner of his "moved" onto the property with little more than a machete, five gallon bucket of water, some nylon rope, a couple of blue tarps, and food for 5 days. They are going to construct, from a few small trees on the property, the tarps and rope, a temporary shelter and begin the process of preparing the land.
I am returning on Tuesday with some basic tools like axes, shovels, more machetes, hammers, nails, etc, and the first thing Isreal will probably do is fix the rickety dock up a bit ... the runners are broken in several places and one more step in the wrong place lol ... we will cut (or find lying) some good small trees if we need to replace the piling posts ..
... Sounds like a good project to keep you (or your workers or both) busy!
Anne ... NW Isla Popa, about a mile around the point from the "town" of Popa Dos.
... Israel is very good at constructing docks and walkways and houses. He has learned much from me after working at De La Luna Panama for 4 1/2 years. I wish you the best ~ I have missed him and his work since he left to go work for you ~ yet I recognize this is a wonderful opportunity for him to advance. Good luck with your plans!
... congret! is it on an island or the mainland????
... Excellent location, loads of protection from Tsunamis. Is that a stream entering from the end of the Lagoon? Great fishing in that whole area, I’ll have to check it out someday. I was the project manager on the 73 ha project east of you, and know the land well. The National Forest Reserve also east of you has a true jungle to explore. How’s your internet connection going to be? Again Best of Luck
... Gonna grow coffee. . . ?
... He is growing chitra instead "-) From what I hear, a good crop!
... If someone knows of a coffee which grows well on a tropical climate (hot and wet) I'd like to know about it. Had wanted to shade grow some on my Solarte lot under a big Mango tree but was told there was no such bean.
... Hey Bill Harned ~ I saw coffee growing in the lowlands of Mexico in an environment similar to Bocas once when I was in Chiapas, so it should grow here. I have been looking about too. My neighbor on Punta Laurel has one volunteer coffee tree "-) Let's both work on finding it, okay? Most interested!
... Sounds like a plan, Sustainability is the key to life, what better than fruit, vegetables, chocolate, coffee, seafood, Rum, beer and Herbs.
... About the Chitra's, plant Noni (leaves on the ground work well), Lemon Grass, and Citronella around the; house, deck and walkways. Chitras are best known to be in low damp areas, especially near Mangroves.
... Blowtorch..... smoky fire(s)....
... Herbal smudge....
... Lemon grass is great, Bill Harned!
... Is there fresh water?
... Rain... man. :) And there's Rhapsody too.... What a fun project!
Google Earth Image
... Nice! Looks tres protected
looking at the baylet, my property starts around the center of the picture and moves to the right. To the left is my neighbors dock, with a 22' panga in it. What you can't see is that the bay curves around a little bit to the left and that I'm in the back right corner.
looking directly at the property from right in front of it, there
is the dock that leads to the "finger" of land. The property exceeds the limits of the picture to the left and right, and includes the farthest trees you can see.
the rickety dock leading up to the "finger" which is a ridgeline
about 35' high that terminates at the baylet. The property is shaped like a mushroom ... with a narrow strip that leads back to half a circle. The point is only about 30' wide, but rapidly grows to 100' wide, and about 200' back you encounter the "cap" of the mushroom which is something like half of a circle that is 440' or so in radius (a little bigger than a football field). There is a swampy gorge on the left, and a large mangrove swamp to the right "underneath"
the cap of the mushroom ... those areas are not owned by anyone ... they are protected public areas. So my nearest possible neighbor would be over a footbal field away from the center of the property, and the existing neighbor is probably twice that far (perhaps 800 yards) away.

... Sounds nice! Loves me some privacy!! :)
walking up the left side of the finger, note the pina (pineapple)
plants.
a view of Rhapsody, in the outer bay, from the finger. I did not
get any good photos of the view, this is a grab of a mpg video I took. Essentially from anywhere on the ridge line you have a very decent view of part of the inner baylet, the outer bay, a large body of water called "sharks hole", and the panamanian mainland and mountains in the background more or less to the west, so there should be some nice views. From the front part of the finger you can look down into the baylet and see (eventually) the 120' dock with Rhapsody snugly tied to lol
the final part of the path in the "stem" of the mushroom. That
treeline that you are looking at extends for 44 0' or so to the left and right and is 440' deep. The cute, tall canopied tree just right of center is probably 150' high and 250' away.
staring straight up into one of the prettier parts of the canopy
probably the best representative view of the property,
you are looking at the finger from center left and the treed portion from center right. The dock is just out of view to the left. Most of the largest trees that you see are on the property, particularly the three tall ones in the center and the cluster just right of center.
