Southern Sequoia Camp3 Salmon Creek
Ahhhh. This is more like it.
When I got there, it was a little messy from the previous occupants, so
one of the first things I did was police the area of bottles, cans, and
empty shell casings. Firewood was plentiful, and it had a nice fire ring.
The camp was right on the creek, and there was plenty of room.
During the two days there, only one person (vehicle) came by the camp.
A local sherrif who was new to the area was out exploring and learning the roads
himself, so he stopped by to say hi. I ran into him again while
out riding too, but in the two days, I only saw about 4 or 5 people
as I ranged 20 miles or so around the camp.
On the second big ride, I tried to go up a black diamond trail
(they rate ATV trails like they do ski runs - black, blue, and green),
but only got a mile or so before it got too difficult, so
went south instead. I drove forest service roads
down by Long Meadow, where I had lunch, and on to the beautiful
Cannel Meadow, where I came across the old cabin and stables on the
meadow. It was really peaceful there.
I liked this spot so much that I spent 2 nights here, making a total
of three days and nights in the immediate area. However, by the third day I
felt I had pretty much exhausted the local rides (sticking to the legal
forest service roads), so it was time to move on ...
